Potential Changes to the Canadian Performance Exam in Dental Hygiene (CPEDH)
According to the College of Dental Hygienists of BC (CDHBC):
“In order to be eligible for registration in BC, foreign-trained dental hygienists and recent graduates of programs not approved by the College (see Schedule I for approved list) must successfully complete the Canadian Performance Exam in Dental Hygiene (CPEDH). This College approved exam determines an individual’s competence and readiness to practice. This requirement does not apply to those who have already passed a clinical exam in another Canadian jurisdiction or have been registered in good standing within Canada.”
Currently, regulators across Canada are proposing changes that would require all new graduates of accredited dental hygiene programs in Canada to complete the CPEDH at a cost of approximately $2,500 (paid by the individual).
BCDHA is cautiously watching this discussion unroll and continues to have numerous questions and concerns related to this change to the CPEDH. We will continue to welcome opportunities to participate in consultation and discussion with the College around this issue.
We encourage all dental hygienists to be aware of the proposed changes and share your thoughts and concerns with the College.
